FLIES IN MY HOUSE

We can all relate and understand the pain of having an unwanted house guest, but at least with flies, we are able to take steps to keep them out without any fear of upsetting anybody.

As they return year after year, it might seem like this is a losing battle, but in this guide, we'll make a few suggestions to help you give them the buzz off.

Indoor

Shut the door

It might seem like a simple solution, but flies are yet to find a way to fly through a solid surface. Though, if it meant they could get into your house, I wouldn’t put it past them developing the technology, would you? Anyway, shutting the door stops the pesky little pests from zipping in behind you at lightning speed.

However, if you also like to have fresh air circulating the house, no matter the time of year or temperature outside, then a Magnetic Doorway Curtain or Door Curtain both work as effective barriers. Magnetic Insect Curtains are also handy to have if you enjoy having the windows open.

Rubbish

It’s another simple one, but keeping your rubbish covered and emptied regularly will prevent flies from being attracted. In addition to this, ensuring your rubbish bins aren’t left near entry points to the house will also reduce the presence of flies.

Keep food covered

Flies aren’t fussy, whether it's rotting or fresh from the oven, they will be attracted to your food. We’ve all had the unpleasant experience of a fly landing on something we’re eating, so to keep them off make sure all food is covered well.

Indoor Fly Traps

Fly Papers can also help to control the amount of flies in your house. All you have to do is securely hang it in the hot zone and let the flies come to it. It uses a sticky adhesive and naturally, fruity scent to attract the insects.

Swats

Lastly, it’s a very traditional way to keep their numbers down inside, but if it’s not broke why fix it? A Fly Swat is a simple and cost-effective way to keep flies at bay - though it will be one at a time. Be sure to work on your aim and then get into ninja mode.

Outdoor

Create an atmosphere

Create ambience and add the scent of summer to your outdoor activities and al-fresco evenings with Tabletop Citronella Flares, Mini Citronella Candle Buckets and Citronella Bamboo Torches

They are decorative so not only make a great addition to your garden’s aesthetics but are also practical in repelling flies and other insects like mosquitoes.

Outdoor Fly Traps

In addition to the Citronella, Baited Fly Traps are extremely handy to have around outside. They can catch thousands of insects, are easy to use and are poison-free.

Plants

For all you green fingers out there, planting lavender and peppermint will not only add colour to your garden space, but it will also make it smell fantastic and it’s that smell that helps to control pests. It’s said that the smell confuses the insects.

Clean up

When the temperature is high and the sun is out, the BBQ calls to us. If you decide to take things outside, be sure to clean up all your scraps, rubbish and any spills. Also, keep shared food covered - you don’t want to give the impression that the flies are invited too.
